Agreed. Johnny's probably the 2nd best player on the team after Tkachuk. Look elsewhere for a shakeup. I am concerned with Peters though. Almost everyone on the team looks off.

The James Neal trade is killing you guys, not on the ice but mentally. How can a cull like Neal end up thriving two hours away? I despise Neal as much as you Flames fans do but something is very wrong in Calgary. The talent is there for sure but the results appear to be like a flame out, no pun intended.

Somethings got to give here! Maybe the 6-0 spanking will wake these guys up. Time for Gio to call a closed door meeting and sort this sh!t out.

Neal leaving town has made it so much harder for them to score the coke!

Disagree. Rinaldo up, Rieder sent down. We need some character in our bottom 6 and at this point it looks like the right move.

you need to find a way to score a goal.

All you're doing by calling up Rinaldo is shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

Like, what is the point of Lucic if you need ANOTHER guy to fill that same role?

yeah, Rieder sucks, but Rinaldo isn't an upgrade.

If you're going to call someone up, at least make it somebody who MIGHT help. Why not Phillips or Gawdin?

Lucic, Ronald, Bennett, Harmonic, Stone, Tkachuk, Lindholm, and Mangiapane need to become the BASH-Brothers tonight.

The team moto needs to be "Hitz-N-Shotz". Hit anyone carrying the puck, Finish EVERY check, and {overtime you're in the slot, shoot the puck. No more " just one more pass" decisions.

More to this, your bottom six doesn't need character, it needs talent. Half of the forwards on the Flames roster are on pace for fewer than 30 points this year. That's bad.

the top end guys aren't scoring at a high enough rate to hide the fact that the depth players are average at best and it's showing.

1) Neal scored 6 goals in 2 games early in the season, and has since registered 6 goals and 3 assists in 19 games (5 points in the last month aka 15 games). He thrived, he is not currently thriving.
2) He walked into Flames camp expecting line 1 minutes. He didn't get top line minutes, he didn't earn them and he sulked all year long. James Neal has James Neal to blame for his down year last year.
3) McDavid made Alex Chiasson look like a top 6 winger. Alex. Chiasson.
4) The Flames are exactly where they were a year ago. A year in which they vastly outperformed their expectations.
5) Your pun was forced and clearly intended...

If they are out of the playoffs come January, I will get worried. Until then, it's concerning that they aren't playing the way we know they are capable of playing. I just want to see some fight out of these guys.

Yeah, cause Tom Wilson doesn't have Hathaway, Reaves doesn't have Carrier... It's not unfathomable to have 2 tough guys in your roster. Bennett is also week-to-week, so we have no other physical presence outside of Looch at the moment. *edit* Well, outside of Hamonic...

We all also know that Rinaldo's call up serves two purposes:

1) Send a message to the bottom six that your job is not safe
2) Drag this team into a fight. How better to do that than to stir the pot against the team that embarassed you in the playoffs last year?

It will last, at most, 3 games. My bet is 2.

Core changing deals just dont happen mid season in the NHL anymore. The team needs to work its way through this. If they dont Todd, I would trade every pending UFA at the TDL, Hamonic, Brodie, Frolik, Talbot, Czarnik. At the draft, armed with as Garth would say "A treasure trove" of assets/picks, explore some larger deals including potential core pieces. Getting a measure of what Gaudreau would bring back would not be a bad idea even if Treliving is reluctant to pull the trigger on any deal.
But who knows what a team might part with in the summer for an asset like Gaudreau.
Right now trading the likes of Gaudreau or Monahan is pretty crazy.

It would need to be a true hockey trade along the lines of RyJo for Subban etc. for something to happen in season, but I agree that, outside of pending UFA's, you just don't see huge deals take place anymore. Even Burke basically said the cap era has taken all of the fun out of being a GM these days.

I also think there are MASSIVE overreactions to where the team sits today, so, like you, am more than willing to see how the next couple of months go and assess closer to the deadline (and draft).

Those teams aren't bottom 3 in the league in goal scoring.

It will last 2 periods and he will be scratched after that

There are several players in Stockton that I would rather be inserted than Rinaldo

Yeah, I don't get it. Why not Lomberg ? He brings more offense and the same toughness.

I saw the posted lineup for tonight. The Flames second line looks better than the first line.

Does anyone have details about the injuries to Bennett and Hamonic?

My amateur psychological opinion regarding the teams woes is that Gaudreau isn't in the spotlight since Tkachuk signed a better contract and is doing more for the team...it's almost like he's sulking. Monahan has shifted his game to be more physical than he had been - maybe that's taking him out of position for scoring ops that he used to have. Overall, the team is playing like crap on defence - including Gio. They're giving too much room to opposition to skate, too many shots against and scoring ops for the other team. Maybe bring Regher back as a defence coach to teach the team how to play a defensive game.

I'm seriously wondering what happened that this team had such a breakdown between last February and now. It's not at all healthy.
